The Radio Shack Digital Voice Recorder Module (aka VM-1110A, aka ISD-1000A, aka RS #276-1324) was used as the main component of the “guidance chip” prop from the movie “The Rock”. I discovered this while viewing high resolution photos of one of the production props when it went up for auction.

The only other two components are a Takamisawa RZ-12 relay and a Sprague 50uf 16v axial capacitor. With these components I was able to assemble my own version of “The Rock” guidance chip.

I soldered the capacitor and relay in such a way that the digital voice recorder module itself would still remain functional. However to use it I needed a way to interface with it and that is where this PCB comes into play.

The purpose of this board is just to provide a simple interface to the module. It’s centered on an AMP 5650712-1 slot connector which fits the card edge connector on the voice recorder module. On either side of the slot connector are 2.54mm pitch header pins labeled with their functions.

SPK is for connecting a speaker; a generic 0.25W, 8ohm speaker should suffice. The MIC port is for an electret microphone or possibly line-level audio from some other source. PLAYL and PLAYE will trigger playback when the two pins on that port is connected. REC likewise will record audio while its two pins are connected. I use momentary push buttons for these. REC LED can be used to connect an LED to indicate the board is recording. The square pin goes to the anode of the LED. The surface mount resistor labeled R_LED is for limiting current. You could always add your own resistor in series and bridge R_LED.

For power there’s a 5V port on the headers where the square pin is positive and the round is negative, but I’ve also added a footprint for a 2-wire USB port as an alternative means of adding power to the board.

I’ve added holes at the four corners to give you something to use for mounting this to something else. You’ll likely want to use some kind of standoffs to help support the board and elevate it a bit so the pins from the slot connector don’t short on whatever is underneath.

This is an accessory that fits the accessory port on the legs of R-unit droids from Droid Depot at Galaxy’s Edge. It is designed to be a holiday tree with three LEDs that will light up like other droid accessories. All through-hole components, 5mm LEDs and ¼ watt resistors, used in the design to make assembly easy. Resistor values are marked on the PCB, although they don’t have to be an exact match. The switch and pin headers are standard 2.54mm pitch which you can usually find just about anywhere online.

The purpose of the switch is to switch between droid accessory sound banks. R-unit droids only recognize blaster and thruster accessories using different resistor values. The switch allows selection of which resistor is used to identify the accessory, thus which sound bank to use when pressing the accessory button on the droid remote.

This circuit provides a means to cycle the power on a Galaxy’s Edge droid (especially BB-units) to wake them up after they go to sleep (from 5 minutes of inactivity) by briefly tilting the droid upside down.

This PCB is designed specifically for BB units to fit over a nub on the outside of the plastic housing of the BB’s motor, specifically the motor to the right of the logic PCB. This pcb would be placed with the component silk screen facing in towards the logic PCB and the droid silkscreen side facing away.

This design uses only through-hole components to make soldering a little easier.

The power transistor should be a logic-level N-channel MOSFET in a TO-220 package. Something like an IRLZ44N will work, but there are many options out there.

When soldered to the board, the MOSFET should stick out horizontally, do not bend it to face as it will not fit when the BB unit is closed.

The tilt switch should be bent away from the PCB, but parallel with the PCB, such that when the BB is upright it is making a connection.

The connectors used are JST-PH 2.0mm pitch connectors. I suggest a female socket for the BATT connector and a cable with a male connector for the DROID connector. This will allow you to plug the battery connector into the PCB and then connect the PCB to the battery connector on the logic PCB.

• 2 x 100k 1/4W through-hole resistor
• 1 x 10k 1/4W through-hole resistor
• 1 x 100 ohm 1/4W through-hole resistor (this has all necessary resistors)
• 2 x 2n7000 N-Channel MOSFET in TO-92 package
• 1 x 10uF ceramic capacitor (this set includes 10uF capacitors)
• 1 x JST-PH 2.0mm female socket
• 1 x JST-PH 2.0mm male lead (this has both connectors)
• 1 x SW-520D tilt switch
• 1 x IRLZ44N N-Channel MOSFET in TO-220 package

This is a PS/2 to Mac Plus mouse adapter. It uses an ATtiny806 to convert the data stream and button events between the two. The code to support this adapter can be found on my github repository.

This adapter may also work with a Mac 128, 512, and Apple Lisa.

This is a PS/2 to Mac Plus keyboard adapter. It uses an ATtiny806 to convert the scan codes between the two. The code to support this adapter can be found on my github repository.

The RJ10 cable that connects the adapter and keyboard must be a pass-through cable like what was used with the original keyboard. RJ10 telephone handset cables, while they fit the RJ10 jack, are crossover cables. You would need to cut and re-crimp one end of such a cable in order to make it work with this adapter. Otherwise you risk damaging your Mac and this adapter.

You may find some sellers on eBay who produce such cables specifically for the Mac Plus. Alternatively you could make one yourself (as I did) with these items:

NOTE: RJ9, RJ10, and RJ22 are all basically the same thing. They are all 4P4C (4 Position 4 Conductor) connectors and will fit the Mac Plus and this adapter.
