Zener avalanche random generator, 1000 bits/sec, 3.3V-5V. Uses PIC16F1615.

My second attempt at a breadboard adapter for using Thonkiconn-style 3.5mm mono jacks. These jacks can plug directly into a breadboard but they’re not very secure, so a breadboard adapter with more pins is a nice way to secure it. Also I tend to forget which pin is which when using other adapters that I’ve found.

This is based on little-scale’s similar board but I wanted a smaller board and labels for the connections.

There is a project page on github for this with kicad source files, pdf schematics, gerbers, etc. It’s for the newer version (V3) but is nearly identical.

BOM:

• 2 Thonkiconn jacks (QingPu WQP-PJ398SM or WQP-PJ301M-12, or compatible)
• 2 2x3 pin male headers

Changes from v2c to v2d:

• Everything is a little closer together.
• The board’s edges are a lot closer to everything.
• Because of those other changes, the board is a little smaller/cheaper.

Things to change/fix in future versions:

• Make the traces wider – I’m pretty sure they’re OK as-is, but why not make them wider since I have the room. (fixed in V3)
• Move the traces to the bottom of the board – Again, it’s OK enough as-is, but if they were on the bottom, then the labels wouldn’t be on top of them, warping the letters a little. (fixed in V3)

Update 2020/04/17: This board has been tested and works great.

[NOTE: This board hasn’t been tested yet. It’s simple enough that I’m fairly certain it’s OK, but in case it’s not, this is why. After I test it, I’ll remove this note.]

There are already some other RPi Zero audio output pcbs available, but this one was designed specifically with several goals in mind:

• mono
• through hole
• fits inside my RPi Zero case
• uses a PJ302M jack to mount it to the case
• decently documented

It’s based on a circuit from tinkernut though I’m not sure if they originated it (it’s just a passive filter, after all). See that tinkernut page for more info about setting up the RPi to work with it. And if that page ever disappears, feel free to google for something like “rpi zero pwm audio” since there are many articles about how to set that up. I used through-hole components because I didn’t have all the right parts in SMD. There are no mounting holes because it’s intended to be panel-mounted via the jack.

BOM:

• R1 = 270R
• R2 = 150R
• C1 = 10uF electrolytic, 2.5mm lead spacing
• C2 = 33nF ceramic, 5mm lead spacing (tinkernut’s page says “0.33uF” but other similar schematics say 33nF)
• J1 = PJ302M 3.5mm mono jack
• J2 = 1x2 pin header (I use right angle)

The lead spacing for the capacitors is not a strict requirement, since you can always bend the leads in or out a bit if you’re close. When shopping for the electrolytic cap, be aware of its size, especially if you’re going to be putting this in a tight space like I am.

This is a shield that fits on top of an Adafruit Huzzah Feather to facilitate it being neatly connected to a Mitsubishi Heatpump.

CoCoDragon-32K-EPROM-Cartridge-CC1-32KEC-0001.1 is the 32K Version of the CoCoDragon-8K-EPROM-Cartridge-CC1-8KEC-0001.1 - It is a 32K EPROM Cartridge for the Tandy Radio Shack TRS-80 Color Computer 1, 2, 3 and Dragon Data Dragon computers. This was one of the very first things that my nephew created when he was teaching himself electronics and computer design - it works, but could be better. He made and sold about 30 or so of these almost ten years ago. The design was meant to be as small as possible so as to fit entirely inside the cartridge Program Pak port and was useful for DriveWire or CoCoNet. It uses a 27256 EPROM. Updated to version 0001.1 on 5 May 2019 by “Ankle” Bob and released under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) License [https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/] - there is definitely a lot of room for improvement and “Little John” made many improved versions which will be shared as I get more time to do so. Notes: The CoCo 1, 2 and Dragon can only access the first 16K. The CoCo 3 can access the entire 32K, minus the 0xFFnn I/O and Vector page. Many other similar (but much improved) cartridges are forthcoming. There are much better designs in my possession and I intend to post them all, in no particular order.

Adds WiFi capability to Solar Powered Gates. Basically supports 4 switch inputs and 4 switch outputs. Outputs have read-back which is used to sense external switch closures. This board looks like an Arduino MKR1000 WiFi board to the Arduino IDE so development is easy. It fits a Hammond Manufacturing 1554E enclosure and was designed with KiCad. Check Github for the KiCad design files and code. Rev 1.1 updated to KiCad 5.1 libraries.

Adds WiFi capability to Aerobic Septic Systems. Supports an external Solid-State-Relay for effluent pump control. Has inputs for 3 alarm switch closures: air pump alarm, high water float alarm, and bleach level alarm. This board looks like an Arduino MKR1000 WiFi board to the Arduino IDE so development is easy.
