This is the high-voltage section of the geiger counter. It’s based on the kickback high voltage generator designed by Tom Napier and published in Nuts & Volts, January 2004. There are more straightforward designs based on inverters, but this has its own charm. It has also been time-tested, and is found in GM tube power supplies from DIYGeiger, MightyOhm, and Pi-GI.
