This Project was inspired by Fran Blanche’s Video about the recreation of a vintage Soviet PCB inside a commemorative model of the Sputnik satellite. This model is an exhibition piece of the Royal Society and nobody knows what its PCB looks like because it is hidden inside the stand. However, the Sputnik model comes along with schematics. Apparently the transistorized circuitry shown there contains some errors which first have to be addressed before we again can enjoy the beeps of the Sputnik (model).

YASB aka Yet Another Sputnik Beeper is my approach to build a working version of this PCB. As Fran did an excellent job with her circuit analysis I shamelessly let my design benefit from this :-). The only difference is the RC bridge R16-C9 which I implemented from the Royal Society’s schematics as is. It turns out that this bridge plays a crucial role in the sound generating process by separating the otherwise continuous howling into single beeps. You can find out more in my lengthier project description.

Since nobody has recently seen the actual PCB inside the Sputnik model we can’t decide wether Fran’s or my approach (which are very similar by the way) is more correct. From the peresent level of knowledge they could both be wrong :-).
