This is a one-tube Nixie clock - see my web site for more info.

Features include:

• Any Nixie tube can be driven using an adapter (several on here at OSHPark).
• It is driven by an ESP8285, so it has built-in WiFi.
• It is powered from a USB port.
• KiCAD project is on GitHub
• It can be programmed through the USB - source code is available on GitHub.
• It has an I2C expansion port.
• It has a light sensor for auto-dimming.
• The default application:
  • Synchronizes the time with the internet
  • Presents a web configuration GUI
  • Has five presets for easy switching between different configuraions
  • Has a blanking period
  • Can drive a tube either as a clock, or a counter
  • HV can be modified from the GUI to increase the current through the tube.
  • You can control the backlighting

A breadboard adapter for the IN-2 and IN-8 Nixie tube. These tubes have 1mm pins that plug in to a socket. This board is intended to use female D-SUB pins as a ‘socket’. These are often listed on eBay as ‘1mm tube socket pins’.

The board includes pads for a neopixel and for a current limiting resistor (or a jumper if current is limited off-board). Adding the resistor on the board allows you to easily swap different adapter boards in and out without having to worry about changing this resistor.

This was an exercise in designing a board that can incorporate a WiFi antenna along with an ESP8285. It breaks out all of the available GPIOs, including GPIO9 and GPIO10. It can be programmed just like an ESP01.

My other project a USB-UART adapter makes this very straightforward by implementing a NodeMCU style reset interface specifically for the ESP01 style adapter.
