Total Price: $28.25

Atlas Shield is a multiplexer board for Atlas Scientific embedded sensor circuits, designed as an Arduino-compatible shield. Design, documentation and firmware on GitHub.

This board requires a 74HC4052 serial/analog mux/demux chip in 16-pin DIP packaging. These used to be available from SparkFun, but have been discontinued. They can be purchased from Digi-Key (Digi-Key part number 568-1457-5-ND) for about $1.21 for quantities less than ten.

To attach the Atlas shield to an Arduino board, you’ll need some headers. Some options are :

  • Adafruit’s Shield stacking headers for Arduino (R3 Compatible)
  • Sparkfun’s Arduino Stackable Header Kit - R3
  • If you don’t plan to stack another shield on top, you can use male header pins, like these

To attach your probes, you’ll need four 5mm pitch 2-pin terminals. Some options are :

  • Sparkfun’s Screw Terminals 5mm Pitch (2-Pin)
  • Pololu sells them in a four pack

You can either solder the Atlas sensor boards to the shield, or you can mount them in headers. If you want to use headers, you will need eight three pin female headers.

  • You can buy a long row of headers and cut them down with wire cutters. This is cheap and functional, but ugly looking.
  • Buy some pin headers (Digi-Key part number S7036-ND).
