This circuit is an IR beacon used for robot navigation. It snaps on to the top of a 9V battery. It has a small regulator to power a 5V PIC micro. The micro reads the position from a three position dip switch. Based on the code it generates a pulse repetition frequency (PRF) pulse train that a robot can use to home in on. The circuit has 4 side mounted IR LEDS for full horizontal coverage.
The base carrier frequency of the IR light is fixed at 38kHz. The same as the very popular and easy to find IR receivers. The signal is always on for a set amount of time (tentatively 500 micro seconds) and off for an amount of time based on the code. For each subsequent code, the off time is the on time multiplied by the nth prime number. This allows multiple beacons to be active in the same area and have the robot be able to uniquely identify each beacon.
Code is yet to be written for the PIC on this board or the receiver code. Will update when available on GitHub.
