A board for building a James tone stack directly on the back of a pair of 16mm pots. Uses the capacitor and resistor naming convention from the Duncan Amps Tone Stack Calculator.

I designed this fuzz around some secret sauce MOSFETs, but it will work with any standard TO-220 MOSFETs with the right pin out. It’s a pretty simple 2 knob fuzz circuit without any tone controls. Tone shaping is done through the drain bypass cap on the first stage to tame the high end. The bright cap on the gain control is optional, depending on the gate capacitance of the second MOSFET.

Follow the source / drain labeling on the silkscreen and you can use most TO-92 MOSFETS - the package drawing reflects enhancement mode BS170s, depletion mode LND150s will be reversed. R2 gate bias to ground, R1 gate bias / feedback to drain, R3 drain, D1 gate protection diode. For BS170 use 2M2 or 4M7 R1&R2, 4K7 or 10K R3, D1 1N4739. For LND150 omit R1, use 1M R2, 4K7 R3, omit D1. C1 & C2 are to taste, I like 22n to 100n.
